CODE-MM progress report

Today, Manfred Del Fabro gave a short talk about the progress of CODE-MM in front of the Lakeside Labs advisory board. After our first year (of three altogether) we can state that we are on a good way and the advisory board honoured that. We received very good feedback.

In the first year of our project we published 20 papers, including top conferences like ACM Multimedia, ACM ICMR and IEEE ICME. Furthermore, we were able to initiate cooperations with well-known medical experts.

CODE-MM presented at interdisciplinary workshop

Manfred del Fabro presented the ideas, research questions and goals behind the project CODE-MM at the 1st Interdisciplinary Workshop of the research area Self-Organizing Systems at Alpen-Adria Universität Klagenfurt.

CODE-MM members attended MMM 2013

Klaus Schoeffmann and Manfred del Fabro attended the Multimedia Modeling Conference (MMM) 2013 in Huangshan, China. Klaus Schoeffmann organized the second Video Browser Showdown. Manfred del Fabro participated in the showdown and gave a talk about “Smart Video Browsing With Augmented Navigation Bars”.

Successful master’s thesis defense

Martin Smole successfully defended his master’s thesis with the title “Organization and Exploration of Large-Scale Video Collections” and passed the final exam.

Congratulations, Martin!

New Master Thesis Project (Michael Riegler)

Michael Riegler, a student from AAU Klagenfurt University, is starting to work on a master thesis in the context of CODE-MM. The working title of his thesis is “Mobile Video-Annotation für Ärzt: Experiment und Evaluierung”.

Mario Guggenberger joined the CODE-MM team

Today Mario Guggenberger joined the CODE-MM research staff team! Welcome Mario, we wish you all the best for your future research activities!

Mario Guggenberger studied Computer Science at Klagenfurt University and received his master’s degree in 2012 with distinction. In his diploma thesis he investigated automatic synchronization of multimedia recordings based on audio, taken from heterogeneous sources like digital consumer cameras, video cameras, smartphones and professional recording gear at distinct events like music concerts or speeches. Between 2007 and 2012 he worked at the Information Technology Service (Zentraler Informatikdienst) at Klagenfurt University where he designed and built intranet applications. In his current position as university assistant within the Lakeside Labs project “Code-MM” he continues his research in the multimedia field.

Manfred-Jürgen Primus joined the CODE-MM team

We proudly present Manfred-Jürgen Primus as new member of our CODE-MM research team. We wish him all the best for his future research activities!

Manfred Jürgen Primus studied Computer Science at Klagenfurt University. During his internship he performed research on object recognition in videos taken in endoscopic shoulder surgery. In his master thesis he continued working with endoscopic videos. He investigated fully automated methods to generate panoramic images out of endoscopic videos, which are showing an overview of the shoulder joint’s inside. After receiving his degree Dipl.-Ing. (with distinction) in May 2012 he joined the Lakeside Labs project “CodeMM” as project assistant in June 2012.
